It also means the relaunch of our blog posts. This season we will be bring you Spring inspo, giveaways, interviews, and a special events. Kicking off we created a Spring inspo Pinterest board – check it out below.

Handmade Home decor New Collection

ZAKKIA’S New 2017 Collection 02

We are so excited to give you a sneak peak at our newest collection – 17:02. The new collection has a more of a mature and dark feel, so get cosy as we show you what we have been working on for the past 6 months.

In our 2017 Collection 02 we have explored a darker side, drawing inspiration from a winter spent in Sweden where the mornings are icy and the waters frozen. Where the sun barely makes an appearance and the trees are bare.

We have experimented with new materials such as frosted handblown glass, silver metal and painted ceramics.

We believe that your coffee and tea should be enjoyed slowly. There is joy in the process of preparing your favourite cup of coffee, of smelling the aroma of freshly ground beans as the hot water hits them.

Our new filters are certainly not the quickest way to brew your coffee, but they do allow you to enjoy the whole process. Handmade from ceramic the filters have a base plate in solid brass, allowing them to be used on almost any size mug.

Enjoy slow living with our Coffee Brewer & Tab Mugs

As always, we have something for the garden lover. This collection we wanted to go back to the roots – literally. We created our Botanic Vases and Plant Misters to make us appreciate where all great things come from and make us slow down. Nothing says patience like watching an avocado seed grow!

Bringing the our doors in – Botanic Vases & Plant Mister

As always our products are designed by us in Sydney and crafted by hand by our skilled makers in Vietnam and India. We continue to work with the same family run workshops we have collaborated with since the beginning. Through these partnerships we aim to contribute to keeping traditional skills and crafts alive.

New collection edit by Maria Laitinen of Scandihome

This week we chat with the talented Maria Laitinen of Scandihome as she picks her personal favourites from our latest collection 2017: Collection 01.

ZAKKIA: Tell us a little about your background and what you are doing now?

Maria: I was born and bred in Finland, but moved to Sydney 12 years ago. My professional background is in Geography (!), but I have been working as an interior/prop stylist for the past few years.

Z: What influences the style you have created in your home and work?

M: My style has always been influenced by my Scandinavian heritage: minimalism and clean lines. My family and I travel to Japan yearly, and I am forever inspired by Japanese aesthetics. Incredibly, there are many similarities between Nordic and Japanese styles!

Concrete Round Tray – Black, Terrazzo Dimple Tray – Medium Rose, Terrazzo Pot – Snow

Z: What do you love about your top picks from our latest collection?

I adore the Terrazzo collection and how versatile the pieces are. When I first saw the collection, I could think of so many uses for each piece; a great feature for any item, I think!

New collection edit by Kara Demmrich

This week Kara Demmrich, one half of professional renovating duo Kyal & Kara, edits our new 2017: Collection 01, choosing her favourite products for their coastal home.

Z: Tell us a little about your background and how you have landed where you are now?

K: I actually studied physiotherapy at university whilst Kyal completed a carpentry apprenticeship, and went on to obtain his builders license. Kyal and I have always loved renovating and it’s always been a dream of ours to renovate full time.

We purchased our first home together when we were 20 and spent evenings after work and weekends transforming a tiny shack into a gorgeous family home (more pics our journal at kyalandkara.com). When The Block auditions opened in 2013, we saw it as an opportunity to do something we love full time for three months. Little did we know how much this would change our lives. Four years later plus A LOT of hard work, we’ve completed over 25 renovations and we’re now renovating for ourselves full time. In this time, we established a building business ‘Diverse Design & Construct.’ We’re also brand ambassadors for some amazing companies such as Beaumont Tiles and Bisley Workwear and work on Network Ten’s ‘The Living Room’ completing their Design Challenges.

Z: Tell us about your favourite project?

K: There’s something we love about every project we do. Our first home was such a labour of love, so it will always be special to us. Producing an online series for our latest renovation ‘Toowoon Bay Reno’ was a whole new experience and we’re looking forward to doing it all over again – sharing our current project ‘Long Jetty Reno.’

Z: You work with a lot of ceramics in the houses you renovate, what do you like about working with these products?

K: I adore ceramics in white, sandy and natural colours. They are such a great way to add warmth and texture to a space, they work well with our relaxed coastal style.

Sage Dimple Tray & Speckle Container

Dimple Tray – Large Sage, Speckle Container – White and Brass Muddling Spoon

Z: What do you love about your top picks from our latest collection?

K: I love the sage colour of the Dimple Tray. It works so beautifully paired with native foliage, and complements the coastal colours in our home. I also love the subtle pattern in the snow Terrazzo Hooks – the bonus is, they’re practical!

Keep up to date with the rest of Kyal and Kara’s world at kyalandkara.com, on Instagram and Facebook.

The story behind Zakkia’s Swedish season concrete candle range

Zakkia Concrete Candles

Scent is one of the most powerful senses, with the ability to transport you to a long forgotten memory or special moment in time. Growing up in Sweden it was always exciting to smell the first blades of cut summer grass after a long winter, and while we have smelt this in Australia there is still something special about the natural scents of home.

Zakkia Swedish Candles

In creating this handmade concrete candle range, we wanted to share some of these quintessential Scandinavian scents that remind us of each of the four seasons – Sommar, Höst, Vinter and Vår. Working with a family owned candle maker in the Southern Highlands of Australia we have used soy wax to create candles with custom scent blends that will brighten your home all year round.

Zakkia Group Products

Sommar is Swedish for summer, and is the best time of year in our opinion! This scent reminds us of sitting out on the grass with a glass of wine in hand, skin tight after a day out on the water.

Zakkia Sommar Candle

Höst means autumn in Swedish. We have a word in Sweden that doesn’t really translate into English – mys. This word describes the cosy, homely feeling we Swedes are good at creating, particularly in the northern areas where I’m from! Our autumn candle has a warm pear scent that aims to bring that cosiness to homes in Australia.

Zakkia Host Candle

Vinter is the Swedish word for winter. This handmade candle has a blend of vanilla bean, figwood and black mission figs that is really warm and heavy. We sometimes think it smells a bit like baking, which feels like a good activity during cold winter days.

Zakkia Vinter Candle

Vår translates to spring in English. We created this scent to inspire you at that time of the year when anything feels possible! Combining jasmine flower petals and fresh cucumber the gentle scent of this candle is the perfect finish to a bright spring day.
